By the Closing Door and Was Dragged in the Platform, He Sustained Internal Bleeding and Injuries
Let this fill in as a notice to the mass commuter: never attempt to ride a train when its entryways closing off. This is the thing that happened to a man whose leg got wedged between the train entryways, and was dragged over the platform when the LRT grabbed speed.
n the news report of GMA-7’s 24 Oras, the casualty named Julieto Eco is as of now recovering in the emergency unit of Adventist Medical Center after he sustained wounds on his head and face. The grievous incident occurred at the Gil Puyat LRT Station.
Dr. Jasmine Migrino clarified that in light of the CT scan results, Eco had cracks on his nose and forehead, and slight internal bleeding in his head because of the fall, aside from scratches and wounds on his body.
According to the 48-year-old victim, the LRT train doors used to immediately open if the sensors detect something in the middle of the doorframe. “Automatically nag-o-open talaga ‘yun siya. Eh ngayon parang hindi. Bigla-biglang paalis, palakas, hanggang sigaw kami nang sigaw.”
“Pihit ako nang pihit hanggang napatumba sa platform, doon ako napakahig nang husto,” he said, recalling his experience.
In the CCTV footage, Eco was seen running towards the closing train doors despite the warning buzzer. The guard didn’t immediately notice the victim since he appeared to be just standing beside the moving coach, until Eco fell and got dragged.
Once the train driver noticed the commotion, he suddenly stopped the train.
Speaking to GMA News, Engr. Rodrigo Bolario, operations director of LRT-1 said that commuters shouldn’t insist getting on the train once the doors begin to close. “Pag warning buzzer na, huwag nang piliting sumakay. Kasi maaaksidente pa sila,” he explained.
According to the administration of LRT, there are certain first-generation trains that still close the doors even if something gets caught in between them, unlike newer trains equipped with sensors. Bolario clarified that the one involved in the recent incident was a first-generation one.
In light of the incident, the LRT administration extended hospitalization assistance to Eco.
